Is Vietnamese really hard because of the tones?

Vietnamese has 6 tones, the highest tonal challenge among commonly studied Asian languages. But here's the massive advantage: the writing system indicates the tone directly through diacritics (ả, ã, à, á, ạ, â...). When you read Vietnamese, you know the tone without hesitation. The American Foreign Service Institute rates Vietnamese at level 4 out of 5. With a native teacher correcting your tones in real time, progress is far faster than with self-study.

What is the difference between Northern and Southern Vietnamese?

Hanoi (Northern) Vietnamese and Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon (Southern) Vietnamese differ mainly in accent and certain vocabulary. Tones are realized differently, some Northern tones simply don't exist in Southern pronunciation. Mutual intelligibility is complete, but the Saigon accent (seen as more 'relaxed') and the Hanoi accent (more 'precise') sound very different. Our teachers cover both variants so you build full comprehension.

Is Vietnamese useful for the diaspora in France?

Does the Latin alphabet make Vietnamese easier to learn?
