Is Danish really hard to pronounce?

Danish pronunciation has a reputation for being tough, even for other Scandinavians. Danes tend to swallow their consonants, creating a wider gap between written and spoken Danish than in Swedish or Norwegian. That said, the grammar is among the simplest of all Germanic languages: only 2 genders (vs. 3 in German), very simple conjugation, and vocabulary close to English and German.

If I learn Danish, will I understand Swedish and Norwegian?

Yes, to a large extent. The three Scandinavian languages share 80 to 90% of their vocabulary and are mutually intelligible in writing. In speech, Danish is harder for Swedes and Norwegians to understand (because of those swallowed consonants).
