Is Swedish hard to learn?

Swedish is rated Category 1 (out of 5) for difficulty by the Foreign Service Institute, one of the most accessible languages for English speakers, and among the easiest Germanic-Nordic languages for French speakers. Simple grammar (just two genders: common and neuter), regular verbs, syntax close to English, and plenty of cognates with English and Latin-based languages. The pitch accent takes a little practice but isn't a barrier to communication.

Will Swedish help me understand Danish and Norwegian?

Yes, the three Scandinavian languages (Swedish, Norwegian, Danish) are mutually intelligible in writing and partially in speech.
