Irish is classified as a difficult language for English speakers and very difficult for other Europeans. The main challenges: VSO word order (Verb-Subject-Object, unique among Western European languages), consonant mutations (words change their initial letter depending on context), and a spelling system that doesn't intuitively reflect pronunciation. That said, its Indo-European roots give it vocabulary with distant cousins in other languages.
Irish is a key that unlocks a deep cultural identity. In the Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking regions of Galway, Kerry, Donegal), speaking Irish creates a connection that is impossible in English.
