Are Spain Spanish and Latin American Spanish very different?

Spain Spanish uses 'vosotros' and pronounces 'c' and 'z' like the English 'th', which can unsettle beginners. Latin American Spanish is more homogeneous in pronunciation and uses 'ustedes'. Vocabulary differences also exist: in Spain 'coche' = car, in Mexico 'carro', in Argentina 'auto'.
