A family language

Reconnect with Arabic

The language of your parents, your grandparents or your partner. The one you want to pass on to your children.

A couple by the water
Speaking the language of the country means reconnecting with its people.
A mother and her son, cheek to cheek
Now, at home, we speak Arabic.
A young woman on the phone
“Hi Mum, I speak Arabic!”
A father and his son in traditional dress
Children who speak Arabic are the greatest cultural wealth you can bring to your family.
A grandparent couple sitting on a rug
Your grandparents’ Arabic should not end with them.
  • Finally understand what is said at the table, and answer back.
  • Your in-laws speak Arabic to you. Answer them in Arabic.

A language is passed down from generation to generation. Now it is your turn.

The platform

Progress in Arabic (MSA) between classes, at your own pace

Interactive lessons with native audio, vocabulary, dialogues and quizzes. Everything you need to reinforce your skills between live sessions.

The platform

Between classes, you move forward twenty minutes a day

Lessons follow one another in order, with no evening to set aside. Every word is recorded by a native speaker.

  • 273 lessons across 47 modules, from beginner to advanced
  • Native audio on every word, with a slow-down button
  • Your progress is kept, on phone and on computer alike
Audio

You hear the language as it is actually spoken

The recordings are made by native speakers, not by a synthetic voice. The slow-down button separates the sounds when it goes too fast.

  • Every sentence can be played and slowed down
  • The transcription and translation sit under the audio
  • You replay it as many times as you need, with no limit
Quizzes

Every module ends with a quiz, not with a ticked box

You are corrected on the spot, with the explanation. A failed quiz can be retaken, with no penalty and no record.

  • Immediate correction, with the right answer explained
  • An end-of-level test opens the next level
  • A level certificate at the end of the course
Level certificate

Your Arabic (MSA) level, certified in your name

  • Issued once you have passed every lesson of a level: beginner, intermediate or advanced
  • Downloadable as a PDF and shareable on LinkedIn

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about learning Arabic (MSA)

Yes, and this is one of the defining features of Arabic: diglossia. Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the language of the press, official speeches, media, and the Qur'an, understood everywhere but never spoken on the street. Dialects such as Egyptian, Levantine, Moroccan Darija, or Gulf Khaleeji are the languages of daily life, but harder for outsiders. At Targumi, we tailor the course to your goal: if you're heading to Egypt, we teach Egyptian; if you're reading Al Jazeera, we focus on MSA; if you have family from the Maghreb, we teach Darija.
On average 2 to 3 weeks with regular practice of 15 to 20 minutes per day. The Arabic alphabet has 28 letters, each with 4 forms depending on its position in the word (initial, medial, final, isolated). An added challenge: short vowels (harakat) are often not written in everyday texts, you infer them from context. Our teachers use visual methods and progressive reading exercises to make learning feel fluid and tangible.
Arabic is classified as a difficult language by the US Foreign Service Institute (around 2,200 hours for full mastery). But several elements help: English has already borrowed hundreds of Arabic words (algebra, cotton, syrup, magazine, zero). Arabic grammar, although complex, is also highly regular, exceptions are rare. With regular live sessions and consistent practice, most of our students reach basic conversation within 6 to 9 months.
Egyptian Arabic is often recommended as a first dialect: it is the most widely heard in Arabic films and TV series (Egyptian cinema has dominated the Arab world since the 1950s), which makes it the most widely understood across all Arabic-speaking countries. If you have family or professional ties to a specific region, the Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia), the Levant (Lebanon, Syria), the Gulf (Saudi Arabia, UAE), we recommend the matching dialect. Two approaches work: MSA first for structured learners, dialect first for pragmatists.
Yes, our beginner classes start with the alphabet, but in parallel we use transliteration (phonetic writing in Latin letters) so you can express yourself orally from the very first class. The goal is for you to read Arabic directly within the first 3 months. This dual approach, speak quickly, read progressively, is the most effective way to stay motivated while building solid foundations.
The Arab world represents a combined GDP of over 3 trillion dollars, with Gulf economies (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait) attracting massive investment. Sectors actively hiring Arabic speakers include diplomacy, energy, construction and infrastructure, luxury, agribusiness, education, NGOs, and international cooperation. Speaking Arabic in a negotiation in the Gulf or the Maghreb is a significant competitive advantage.
Apps help you acquire vocabulary and get familiar with the alphabet. But Arabic requires constant human feedback on the pronunciation of guttural and emphatic sounds (the 'ayn, ha, qaf), which are impossible to master without real-time correction. Targumi's small-group classes with native teachers let you progress 3 to 4 times faster than self-study, especially for speaking.
The most effective method combines live classes with a native teacher for pronunciation and conversation, immersion (Al Jazeera, Arabic series, podcasts), and regular writing practice. Targumi offers exactly this format: regular live classes in small groups with native teachers, supported by targeted exercises between sessions. Your first real exchanges in Arabic are possible within 2 to 3 months.
One plan, Full access, gives you every language, live small-group classes with native teachers, interactive lessons and the community: $8.50 instead of $17 a week, $24.50 instead of $49 a month or $49.50 instead of $99 a quarter, after a 7-day free trial. The Platform plan, without live classes, costs $9.50 instead of $19 a month. Launch offer until October 31 at 11:59 pm (Paris time), with a limited number of spots: you keep the reduced price for as long as you stay subscribed.
100% online. When live classes are scheduled for this language, they take place in small groups via Google Meet; the schedule is in the platform. Interactive lessons stay accessible 24/7.

How the 7-day trial works

  1. You choose your plan and register a payment method. Nothing is charged today: $0.

  2. For 7 days, you have all of Targumi: every language, live classes, replays and the discussion groups.

  3. The date and amount of the first charge are shown in your trial confirmation email and in "My subscription".

  4. You cancel in 1 click from "My subscription", at any time before the trial ends: no charge. Otherwise, your plan starts at the end of the 7 days, at the price shown.

One trial per account. If you have already had a trial, your subscription starts on the day you order.
