The platform

Progress in Mongolian between classes, at your own pace

Interactive lessons with native audio, vocabulary, dialogues and quizzes. Everything you need to reinforce your skills between live sessions.

The platform

Between classes, you move forward twenty minutes a day

Lessons follow one another in order, with no evening to set aside. Every word is recorded by a native speaker.

  • 195 lessons across 51 modules, from beginner to advanced
  • Native audio on every word, with a slow-down button
  • Your progress is kept, on phone and on computer alike
Audio

You hear the language as it is actually spoken

The recordings are made by native speakers, not by a synthetic voice. The slow-down button separates the sounds when it goes too fast.

  • Every sentence can be played and slowed down
  • The transcription and translation sit under the audio
  • You replay it as many times as you need, with no limit
Quizzes

Every module ends with a quiz, not with a ticked box

You are corrected on the spot, with the explanation. A failed quiz can be retaken, with no penalty and no record.

  • Immediate correction, with the right answer explained
  • An end-of-level test opens the next level
  • A level certificate at the end of the course
Level certificate

Your Mongolian level, certified in your name

  • Issued once you have passed every lesson of a level: beginner, intermediate or advanced
  • Downloadable as a PDF and shareable on LinkedIn
  • A unique number, verifiable online on targumi.com
  • Included in the plans with live classes, from the first payment: it is not issued during the trial

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about learning Mongolian

Almost, Mongolian Cyrillic has 35 letters (2 more than Russian Cyrillic: Өө and Үү for specific Mongolian vowels). If you know Russian Cyrillic, you can read Mongolian in 1 to 2 weeks. But note: in China (Inner Mongolia), the vertical classical Mongolian script is used, a completely different system. Our courses in Mongolia focus on Cyrillic.
Mongolia is one of the richest countries per capita in mineral resources, coal, copper, gold, uranium, rare earths. The country attracts massive investment from China, Russia, Canada, and South Korea into its mines. Ulaanbaatar is a rapidly transforming city. Speaking Mongolian in this context is a rare advantage, very few foreigners make the effort, which makes building trust possible.
Inner Mongolia is an autonomous province of China with 4 to 5 million Mongols (out of 24 million total inhabitants). The Mongolian language is still taught there, but Mandarin is dominant. The Inner Mongolian dialect has phonetic and lexical differences from Khalkha (the standard Mongolian of Ulaanbaatar). The vertical classical Mongolian script is more widely used there than in Mongolia, where Cyrillic predominates.
Deeply, khöömei and sung epics (tuuli) are transmitted in Mongolian, and their texts reflect the cosmology and history of the steppe. Understanding Mongolian allows you to grasp the lyrics of traditional songs, the invocations of shamans (böö), and the poetic formulas of epic storytellers. The Mongolian language is musically rich, with a natural prosody that lends itself to song. Our teachers can integrate traditional singing into lessons upon request.
Mongolian is classified as a very difficult language for Europeans, Cyrillic alphabet to learn, agglutinative grammar with vowel harmony, SOV structure, and no kinship to European languages. For a French or English speaker, expect 14 to 18 months with regular classes to reach B1. But for the essential phrases of daily life in Mongolia and expressions from the nomadic culture, 3 to 4 months of intensive study is enough to create an authentic connection.
One plan, Full access, gives you every language, live small-group classes with native teachers, interactive lessons and the community: $8.50 instead of $17 a week, $24.50 instead of $49 a month or $49.50 instead of $99 a quarter, after a 7-day free trial. C

“Been on Targumi for 3 months. The small group format is exactly what I needed. My teacher takes time to correct accent, it's precious. Made more progress in 3 months than in 2 years of regular apps.”

CamilleVerified purchase
D

“What sold me is you actually speak from class one. No 10 hours of theory before opening your mouth. And the platform between classes is well-built, I revise on the morning commute.”

DamienVerified purchase
S

“Honestly I had doubts at first because I'd tried plenty of methods without sticking. This is different, the teacher knows their stuff, adapts to your level, and we have fun on top of it. 6 months in and still motivated.”

SorayaVerified purchase
A

“Really good experience overall, the rhythm between live classes and independent practice is well-balanced. Small note: the mobile app lags sometimes, but the teaching content is well worth the price.”

AntoineVerified purchase
E

“The thing that makes a real difference compared to other platforms: teachers are native and trained. You feel it, especially on accent and everyday expressions you don't learn in textbooks.”
